3-Piece Raised Cargo Bed Enclosure On New GMC Chassis

I had an opportunity to visit Harbor Truck Bodies in July and I took that opportunity to wander around their plant and yard catching this beauty getting cleaned for delivery to the dealer. This is a regular cab loaded truck with great aluminum wheels and all the finery any workman or woman could want, and then it has this great body.

What stands out for me on this body are a couple things. First it is the raised 3-piece cargo bed enclosure to keep those items in there out of sight and out of mind. The top opens up two thirds of the bed area when opened and glides smoothly on teflon pads. The other unique thing on this is the way the rear is finished. Most commonly, the rear would be barn doors with no tailgate and this one retained the tail gate has has modified bard doors with HD lock assembly to boot.

In addition, there isn't a need to cover the standard stainless steel lids with aluminum treadbrite overlay, unless you want a bit more bling. That must be the case here. This unit also has a HD material rack with a conduit box and master lock system to make life easy on the job site.

No matter how you look at it, this is a sweet rig. See more from Harbor at www.htbi.net

Colorado and Canyon Will Lead Midsize Pickup Segment in Four-Cylinder Fuel Economy and Payload

DETROIT – The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon will offer segment-leading highway fuel efficiency for four-cylinder midsize pickup trucks, according to EPA fuel economy estimates. The Canyon will also offer segment-leading payload ratings. No competitor in the segment offers more payload capacity than the Colorado or Canyon.
The all-new midsize trucks, powered by the 2.5L four-cylinder engine with 2WD and available 6-speed automatic transmission, will have an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for a combined 22 mpg rating overall.
Trucks outfitted with 4WD will have EPA-estimated 19 city mpg and 25 mpg highway for a combined 21 mpg, giving Colorado and Canyon segment-leading highway fuel efficiency and segment-leading power for a four-cylinder models with automatic transmissions.
With the 3.6L V-6 engine, payload ratings for the Colorado and Canyon are 1,590 pounds and 1,620 pounds, respectively. The difference is due to slight differences in curb weight – the Canyon has alloy wheels standard while the standard wheels on the Colorado are slightly heavier steel wheels.
“Offering segment-leading four-cylinder fuel economy is yet another item to add to the Chevrolet Colorado’s long list of segment leads,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “It shows once again how the midsize segment can benefit from a fresh competitor offering the latest technologies.”
“The 2015 GMC Canyon uses innovations like available active grille shutters, which close to get the most out of every gallon of fuel and open when more air is needed, like when transporting heavy loads” said Kenn Bakowski, Canyon marketing manager. “Having segment-leading V-6 and four-cylinder efficiency, plus the highest payload rating, proves GMC has applied the latest technologies in just the right places, and our customers reap the benefits.”

DETROIT GMC today introduced the 2015 Sierra Elevation Edition, a new entry to the sport pickup truck market. The Elevation Edition, which goes on sale later this year, offers a combination of style and content unavailable from competitors in the sport truck segment.

Built on the strong foundation of the standard 2015 Sierra 1500 double-cab pickup, the 2015 Sierra Elevation Edition incorporates a body-colored grille surround, color-keyed door handles, mirror caps, side moldings and front and rear bumpers designed to give Elevation a sporty monochromatic appearance.
Elevation models also feature premium headlamps with distinctive light-emitting diode, or LED, lighting, fog lamps, and black-painted 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

All Sierra Elevation Edition models are equipped with remote keyless entry, power mirrors, a 110-volt AC power outlet, and LED cargo box lighting. Colorado and Canyon Start Shipping to Dealers

New midsize trucks making their way to dealerships nationwide

WENTZVILLE, Mo. – The two newest entries in the midsize truck segment are one step closer to being on the road, with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon shipping to dealers today.
Consumers have created more than 100,000 configurations of the trucks since the Colorado Build Your Own and Canyon Build Your Own websites went live on Sept. 3.
“The Colorado was designed to meet the demands of the modern midsized truck buyer, and now we’re fulfilling the demand they’ve placed on us,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet. “Chevrolet and everyone at the Wentzville plant has worked hard to get the truck out on time to fulfill as soon as possible the orders our dealers have placed.”
Said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president of GMC: “We have heard our customers loud and clear – they want a modern midsize truck that’s refined and capable. We’re excited to introduce them to the Canyon. We’re confident the Canyon will redefine the segment, with the latest technologies and premium materials throughout.”
Both the Colorado and Canyon benefit from technologies like cabs and frames made with more than 72 percent high-strength steel, available active aero shutters to make the truck as aerodynamic as needed, and available OnStar with 4G LTE, creating a rolling Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven mobile devices to connect to the Internet.
The duo’s available 3.6L V-6 engines return 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway in 2wd form, making them the most fuel efficient V-6s in their class, offering three to five mpg better than their competitors.
For the 2016 model year, Colorado and Canyon will add a 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel to the engine lineup. Technical details and EPA fuel economy estimates will be available closer to launch.
With the introduction of Colorado and Canyon, Chevrolet and GMC will offer customers more pickup choices than any other brand, including midsize, full-size light duty and heavy-duty pickups.

GM to Add Third Shift, 750 Jobs at Wentzville Assembly

Operations expanded to meet market demand
for all-new midsize pickups

WENTZVILLE, Mo. – General Motors will add a third shift at its Wentzville Assembly plant, creating an estimated 750 new jobs, to build the all-new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickups and Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans.

Dealers have ordered nearly 30,000 Colorados, which is very high for early orders. With the midsize trucks, Chevrolet and GMC offer the broadest truck portfolio in the business. No other manufacturer is positioned to offer all truck customers the right truck to meet their varied needs.

To provide Colorado and Canyon customers with an even greater level of choices, Chevrolet and GMC have launched “build-your-own” sites within www.chevrolet.com and www.gmc.com. Both midsize models go on sale this fall.

Among the new trucks’ segment-leading features:

·         Available forward collision alert and lane departure warning

·         Class-leading payload capacity and trailering capacity of 7,000 pounds (3182 kg) when equipped with the max towing package

·         Configurations including an extended cab model with a 6-foot bed, a crew cab with a 5-foot bed and a crew cab with a 6-foot bed

·         Standard CornerStep rear bumper and easy lift and lower tailgate pioneered on the 2014 Silverado

·         Built-in OnStar 4GLTE connectivity that makes the truck a Wi-Fi hotspot capable of supporting up to seven devices.

The 750 third shift positions are in addition to the 1,315 new jobs at Wentzville that GM committed to with the launch of the new pickups and the addition of a third stamping press – two major investments totaling $513 million.

Wentzville Assembly currently employs approximately 2,600 hourly and salaried workers and operates two production shifts. The third shift is expected to begin in early 2015.

Wentzville’s third shift is the latest job-creating action by GM. Since June 2009, GM has announced U.S. facility investments of more than $11.2 billion and either protected or added approximately 27,000 jobs.
